Olson was founded in 1961 as a family business, starting out by producing components for radios from a room at the family home. This then evolved into the manufacture and supply of power distribution units (PDUs), which over the years has led Olson to become a market leading brand within this field. Interestingly our first PDU was designed for our own use at an exhibition. This early innovation received orders due to its high build quality and saw the launch of our standard UK 13 A power distribution units.
Located in Stanmore, Middlesex is our head office and manufacturing facility where we have been based since 1998. This UK based operation includes our own assembly, metal fabrication and paint spraying facilities. As we have all of this under one roof, we are able to offer the design and manufacture of custom products, complete to customer specification. This also means that from the first initial enquiry, through quotation, manufacture and despatch of goods we have complete control over the entire process. Enabling us to work closely with our customers and give the excellent customer service we have strived to provide over the years.
During our 60 years, we have become an established supplier to many large organisations and leading companies throughout the UK and worldwide. Over the years we have expanded our extensive range of over 1,800 standard products. Our products are suitable for various industries and applications, including Data Centres, Education and Healthcare – for which we developed our own range of Hospital Grade PDUs that we supply to major NHS trusts and Healthcare providers, with features specific to their applications.
Innovation is a big part of our heritage therefore we are continuously developing new products to add to our portfolio. Most recently we developed an Intelligent PDU which can be supplied in various configurations, with either remote monitoring or with remote monitoring and switching. These products have been supplied to many Data Centres and are proving to be a popular range.
We also like to consider how an existing product can be improved. An example of this is with our Suspended Range of PDUs, which have been one of our most popular products for many years. We saw an opportunity to add value to this already successful range by offering an alternative to the cable/chain. Resulting in a retractable suspended unit, with a cable spring and retractor system which has increased the popularity of this range even more so.
Sally Hailes a long service member of our sales office team has shared her views when looking back over our company. ‘We are one of the remaining few British Manufacturers and we pride ourselves on our in-house design and production capabilities,’ she commented. ‘Our focus has always been on quality and reliability, as well as providing a fast delivery service. Undertaking a lot of custom products to suit individual needs, we serve a variety of customers requiring additional power in the form of a PDU. We also pride ourselves on providing excellent customer service and our production team have many years of experience with us. As being a long established company we have employees with impressive lengths of service.’
All of our products are ISO accredited and we are also proud to have JOSCAR Accreditation (The Joint Supply Chain Accreditation Register). This year Olson also became members of Made In Britain, which is a proud milestone in our history as we celebrate 60 years of British Manufacturing. The famous Made in Britain mark will enable us to promote our British origins and showcase our abilities as a UK manufacturer.
From inception, Olson have been innovators within the industry, and we are continuing to do so. Sixty years on, we are excited for the future of Olson. With products currently being developed including our very own Lighting Distribution Unit range and new product ranges at the manufacturing stage such as our 1U 13A multiple purpose PDU range. It’s safe to say our innovative foundations are still deeply rooted within Olson. As we proudly celebrate this milestone in our history, we are committed to building close relationships with our customers and continuing to lead the power distribution unit market.
